Our Story

Digging into our own roots, you will discover a true American farming family that began decades ago in the fall of 1944. After sharecropping for a few years, Mr. Perry Coggins, moving from south Florida, settled in Echols County, Georgia, and started his dairy business with the purchase of ten cows and milking equipment. He, with the help of his wife, Willie, and three sons, ran the dairy delivering milk to Valloton's Dairy in Valdosta, Georgia. In 1973, Mr. Perry got out of the dairy business and started Coggins Farm Supply while adding acreage in corn, tobacco, soybeans, and hay and maintaining his commercial cattle.

In the mid 80's, his three sons, Felton, Edwin, and Gerald, along with his grandsons ventured into vegetable farming being the first to use plasticulture with drip irrigation in the state of Georgia. Years later in 2005, Echols County would be declared the "Carrot Capital of the South" by the state of Georgia producing more than 140 million pounds of carrots each year. Mr. Perry did not live to see all that his family has accomplished, but his legacy of hard work and treating others right remains today.

In 2005, the family got into the registered seed stock business. Mr. Perry's passion for cattle was passed down to his grandson, Mike, who purchased the herd from the family in 2013 along with stockman Tracy Holbert of College Station, Texas. After several years of raising highly touted Blackwater bulls, Mike and Tracy decided to sell the Brangus herd. In 2022, Mike and Penny transitioned into producing top quality Hereford and F-1 replacement females. We are excited about this venture and can’t wait to share with you as our next chapter unfolds. Stay tuned!
